OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF
THE IBP NATIONAL PRESIDENT

Regarding Senator De Lima's Call Urging IBP to Stand Up as Defenders of Truth and Justice

WE STAND FOR THE RULE OF LAW

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines will always faithfully and vigilantly stand for the rule of law, respect for human rights and upholding the Constitution of the Philippines.

Our resolve on this matter has never slackened and, in pursuit thereof, the IBP has relentlessly pursued the interest of the downtrodden, from our Lumad brothers and sisters to the oppressed farmers of Mindanao as well as other victims of human rights abuses and the IBP has consistently spoken against extra-judicial killings.

Being an inherently apolitical organization, the IBP is also duty bound to desist from participating in any partisan politics and, like Caesar’s wife, to avoid even the perception of being tainted with any political color.

To be clear, the IBP shall stand ready, willing and able to assist and defend anyone who is oppressed, abused, or any other victim of injustice but the national leadership of the IBP shall not allow the institution’s name to be sullied by allowing itself to be dragged into the murky world of political mudslinging.
